How to export your data from Squarespace
Squarespace lets you export site content (pages, one blog, text/image blocks) as a WordPress-compatible .xml file, plus products, contacts, and commerce orders as .csv files, and sales/accounting data as an Excel file from the Accounting panel. Images and videos can only be downloaded one at a time from the Asset Library, not in bulk.

Step by step
- 1Make sure your site is published and its site availability is set to Public — you can't export from a trial site.
- 2Open the Import & export content panel in your site's Settings, then click Export.
- 3Click the WordPress icon to generate the file — the .xml export is only available in WordPress format, even if you're not moving your site to WordPress.
- 4If your site has more than one blog page, choose a primary blog from the dropdown before exporting; only one blog's posts (with up to 1000 comments per post) are included.
- 5To get your product catalog and contact lists, export them separately as .csv files (individual mailing lists or in bulk for contacts).
- 6For order history, open the Products & Services panel, click Orders, then click Export data > Download CSV, choosing order statuses, a date range, and all products or a specific product.
- 7For bookkeeping, open the Accounting panel, choose a date range, and click Download to get an Excel file of orders, sale line items, and payments (available from January 2018 onward).
- 8Download images and videos individually from the Asset library — bulk export of media isn't supported.
What the export includes
- ✓Layout pages, one blog page with all its posts and up to 1000 comments per post, text blocks, and image blocks (XML)
- ✓Minimal-structure text from blocks like embed and Instagram blocks, and gallery pages including York project pages on version 7.0 (XML)
- ✓Product catalog and contact lists (CSV)
- ✓Commerce orders, including add-to-cart and checkout form responses for specific products (CSV)
- ✓Sales data: orders, sale line items, and payments from Stripe, PayPal, or Squarespace Payments, from January 2018 onward (Excel)
What it doesn't include
- ✗Site design/layout styling and features that rely on Squarespace's JavaScript and CSS
- ✗Images and uploaded videos in bulk — only individual downloads from the Asset Library
- ✗More than one blog's posts in a single XML export
- ✗Content from an unpublished or trial site
- ✗Sales data from Square as a payment processor (not exportable via the Accounting panel)
- ✗Custom form submissions in the Contacts panel export (not natively supported there)
Before you start
- ⚠You can't export content from one Squarespace site and import it into another — doing so can cause broken image links and other issues
- ⚠The site-content export is only offered as WordPress-formatted XML; some content (e.g., linked PDFs) appears in the XML but won't actually import correctly into WordPress
- ⚠Only one blog page can be exported at a time if your site has multiple blogs
- ⚠Auto-exporting orders to Google Drive or Zapier is only available on certain plans
- ⚠Square payment processor sales data cannot be exported through the Accounting panel at this time
- ⚠Media files must be downloaded one at a time — there's no bulk image/video export
Where to take your data

WordPress.org (self-hosted)
Squarespace's .xml export is purpose-built for WordPress: use WordPress's built-in Importer (Tools > Import > WordPress) to bring in your pages, one blog's posts, and comments directly.
Webflow has no native Squarespace XML importer, so use the exported .xml/CSV as a content reference and rebuild pages manually, or import products/contacts via CSV where Webflow's CMS/e-commerce supports it.
Wix doesn't accept Squarespace's XML export directly; use the exported content as a reference while rebuilding pages, and import your contacts/product CSVs into Wix's Contacts and Stores CSV importers.
Exporting from Squarespace: common questions
Can I export my Squarespace site's design/theme, not just the content?+
No. The export only captures content like pages, one blog's posts, text and image blocks — the visual design relies on Squarespace's own JavaScript and CSS and doesn't export.
Can I move my Squarespace site directly into another Squarespace account?+
No. Squarespace explicitly warns that importing an export into a different Squarespace site can cause broken image links and other issues, so site-to-site migration isn't supported this way.
What file format does Squarespace use for exporting site content?+
A WordPress-formatted .xml file is the only option offered, even if you don't plan to use WordPress — you'd still click the WordPress icon to generate it.
Can I bulk-export all my images and videos?+
No. Bulk export of images or uploaded videos isn't possible; you can only download them one at a time from the Asset library.
Can I export my sales/order history for accounting purposes?+
Yes, via the Accounting panel you can download an Excel file covering orders, sale line items, and payments, with data available from January 2018 onward (Square-processed sales aren't included).
Is there a limit on how much blog content exports?+
Yes — only one blog page exports per .xml file, and it includes up to 1000 comments per post.
