How to export your data from Monday
You can export individual boards, groups, or items to Excel (.xlsx) at any time, or export your entire account (all boards, including private and shareable ones, plus files) as a ZIP archive from the Admin panel; account admins trigger the full export and receive a downloadable ZIP via email within up to 24 hours.
✓ Verified against Monday's official documentation, September 2026
Step by step
- 1For a single board: click the three-dot menu at the top right of the board, click 'More actions', then 'Export board to Excel', and click Export in the window that appears.
- 2Optionally apply filters first (advanced or quick filters) — the export respects active filters and only includes matching items.
- 3Choose whether to include Updates and/or Subitems in the export, and optionally have a copy emailed to you, then click Export to download the .xlsx file immediately.
- 4To export just one group: click the three-dot menu next to the group's name and select 'Export to Excel'.
- 5To export selected items: select them with Batch Actions, click Export in the Batch Actions toolbar, and choose whether to include updates/subitems.
- 6For your entire account: click your profile picture (top right) and select Administration.
- 7Go to the General tab in the left panel, then click the Account tab, scroll to the bottom to 'Export account data', and click Export (optionally tick the box to exclude files for a faster export).
- 8Wait for the email (exports can take up to 24 hours on large accounts) and click 'Download here' to get the ZIP — the download link expires 24 hours after you receive it.
What the export includes
- ✓All boards in the account, including shareable and private boards
- ✓Files uploaded to boards (unless you tick the box to exclude them)
- ✓Board table data exported to Excel: items, columns, and (optionally) updates/replies and subitems
What it doesn't include
- ✗Dashboards are not included in the account export (though their underlying data comes from boards that are exported)
- ✗The Emails & Activities timeline is not supported in the account export
- ✗Archived boards and monday WorkDocs are not included in the account export (export WorkDocs as PDF separately first)
- ✗Board views (Kanban, Calendar, Timeline, etc.) are not exported to Excel — only the main table/filtered table view
- ✗Subitem updates are not included when exporting a board to Excel (only the parent item's updates are)
- ✗The Auto Number Column is not supported in Excel exports
- ✗"Powered by monday.com" branding on the exported Excel file cannot be removed
Before you start
- ⚠A single board export to Excel is capped at 100,000 items
- ⚠Full account export can only be run once every 24 hours, and all account admins get notified each time it's run
- ⚠Full account export can take up to 24 hours to complete on larger accounts
- ⚠The account export ZIP download link expires 24 hours after you receive the email — you must restart the process if it lapses
- ⚠Enterprise admins can disable the ability for non-admins to export boards to Excel via account permissions
- ⚠For ongoing/automated backups (rather than manual exports), Monday points to the third-party Rewind app for daily/on-demand backups with restore capability
Where to take your data
Free and cheaper tools that can take a Monday export. See all Monday alternatives →
Open a Notion workspace, use Import > CSV (convert the exported Excel sheet's tab to CSV first, or import the .xlsx tab directly if using Notion's Excel import) to turn each board table into a Notion database with matching columns.
ClickUp Free
In ClickUp, go to Import > Excel/CSV, upload the exported board's spreadsheet, and map each column to a ClickUp custom field to recreate the board as a List or Table view.
Create a new table in Baserow and use 'Import file' > Excel/CSV to upload the exported board data directly, mapping columns to Baserow field types.
Exporting from Monday: common questions
Can I export my whole Monday account, not just one board?+
Yes. An account Admin can go to Administration > General > Account and use the 'Export account data' section to download all boards (including private and shareable ones) and files as a ZIP file.
Does the account export include dashboards?+
No, dashboards themselves are not included, but the underlying board data that feeds those dashboards is exported since all boards are included in the ZIP.
How long does exporting take?+
Board-to-Excel exports download immediately. A full account export can take up to 24 hours to complete, especially on larger accounts, and you'll get an email with a download link once it's ready.
Will my WorkDocs or archived boards be included?+
No. Archived boards and monday WorkDocs are not supported in the account data export — export WorkDocs as a PDF separately beforehand to avoid losing them.
Is there a limit on how many items I can export from a board?+
Yes, a single board export to Excel is limited to 100,000 items at a time.
Can I automate backups instead of exporting manually?+
Monday's own documentation points to a third-party app, Rewind, for automated daily and on-demand backups with granular restore; the native export feature is a manual, once-per-24-hours process.
