How to export your data from SendGrid

SendGrid has no single "export all data" tool — you export each data type separately as a CSV (unsubscribes, contacts, subusers, stats, email activity) plus manually copy out template HTML; API keys and sender authentication (DNS) records cannot be exported at all.

Formats: CSV, HTMLPlan: Any plan for basic CSV exports; the Email Activity History add-on is required to export up to 30 days of activity (otherwise a shorter default window applies)Role: Not explicitly documented by SendGrid; account access to Settings > Suppressions, Subusers, Marketing Campaigns, and Statistics is needed, which typically means Owner/Admin-level teammate permissions

Step by step

  1. 1Pause sending on the account before you migrate, then log in to app.sendgrid.com with your current username and password.
  2. 2Export unsubscribes: go to the Global Unsubscribes page (Suppressions > Global Unsubscribes), open the action menu, and click 'Download a CSV.'
  3. 3Export Marketing Campaigns contacts: open the Marketing Campaigns contacts page, click into your Global 'All Contacts' list, and export it as a CSV.
  4. 4Export templates: open the Marketing Campaigns templates page and the Transactional (Dynamic) templates page and export/copy the HTML of each template you want to keep.
  5. 5Export subusers: go to the Subusers settings page and click 'Export data' to download all subuser information as a CSV.
  6. 6Export stats and email activity: on the statistics pages and the Activity page, click 'Export CSV.' For the Activity page, SendGrid emails a download link to the address on your account — check your inbox and click 'Download.'
  7. 7Note that sender authentication (domain/DNS records) and API keys cannot be exported — record your existing API keys and DNS setup manually before deleting anything.
  8. 8If you use a dedicated IP, contact SendGrid support to have it migrated; this is not a self-service export.

What the export includes

  • Global unsubscribe / suppression list (CSV)
  • Marketing Campaigns contacts from the 'All Contacts' list, and contacts exported per segment or list (CSV)
  • Subuser account details (CSV)
  • Statistics and Email Activity Feed events (CSV) — up to the last 1,000,000 events
  • Template HTML (copied manually, not a downloadable file)

What it doesn't include

  • API keys — not exportable, must be recreated manually in the new account
  • Sender authentication / domain, link, and reverse-DNS records — not exportable; existing DNS records must be deleted and new ones set up manually
  • Dedicated IP addresses — not self-service; must be migrated by SendGrid support
  • Exported statistics/email activity data cannot be re-imported into a new SendGrid account — it's for your records only

Before you start

  • Email Activity CSV exports are capped at the last 1,000,000 events, even with the Email Activity History add-on that extends visibility to 30 days.
  • Clicking 'Export CSV' on the Activity page doesn't download a file immediately — SendGrid emails a download link to your account's registered email address first.
  • Segments/lists exported via the API with more than 1 million rows generate multiple download links instead of one file.
  • Teammate names must be unique across all of SendGrid, so you may need to delete a teammate from the old account before reusing that name in a new one.
  • Dedicated IP migrations are only handled by SendGrid support during business hours (7am–5pm MST, Monday–Friday).

Where to take your data

Free and cheaper tools that can take a SendGrid export. See all SendGrid alternatives →

Upload your exported contacts CSV as an audience in Resend, and manually recreate transactional templates using the exported HTML in Resend's React Email / HTML template editor.

Import your suppression/unsubscribe CSV into Postmark's Suppressions list and paste exported template HTML into Postmark's template editor.

Upload the contacts CSV to a Mailgun mailing list and add your exported unsubscribe addresses to Mailgun's suppression list via the dashboard or API.

Exporting from SendGrid: common questions

Can I export all my SendGrid data in one click?+

No. SendGrid does not offer a single full-account export — you export unsubscribes, contacts, subusers, stats, and email activity separately as individual CSV files, and copy template HTML by hand.

Can I export my SendGrid email templates?+

Yes, but not as a downloadable file. You open each Marketing Campaigns or Transactional template in the editor and copy out the HTML to paste into a new template elsewhere.

Will my SendGrid API keys transfer to a new account or provider?+

No. API keys are not exportable. You need to check your existing key list, then create matching new keys and update your integrations.

How much email activity history can I export?+

CSV exports from the Email Activity Feed are limited to the last 1,000,000 events; with the Email Activity History add-on you can access up to 30 days of history, still capped at 1,000,000 events.

Can I export domain authentication or DNS records?+

No. Sender/domain authentication data can't be exported or imported — you must remove the old DNS records from your provider and set up domain, link, and reverse-DNS authentication manually in the new account.

What happens to my dedicated IP if I leave SendGrid?+

Dedicated IPs aren't self-exportable. You need to contact SendGrid support with your account details to have the IP migrated, then re-warm it and reset reverse DNS before sending from it again.
