How to export your data from New Relic
New Relic lets you export dashboards as JSON, PDF, or PNG and individual table charts as CSV directly from the UI or via the NerdGraph API; exporting the underlying raw telemetry data (events, metrics, logs) in bulk requires the paid Data Plus add-on, using Historical Data Export for past data or Streaming Export (NRQL-defined rules) to continuously send new data to your own AWS Kinesis Firehose, Azure Event Hub, or GCP Pub/Sub destination.

Step by step
- 1Go to one.newrelic.com > All capabilities > Dashboards and open the dashboard you want to export.
- 2Click the ... icon in the top-right corner and select Download dashboard, then choose JSON, PDF, or PNG as the output format.
- 3For PDF or PNG, optionally set the export width and height in pixels (both default to 1920x1080), then click Download.
- 4To export a single table chart's data instead of the whole dashboard, click the ... icon on that chart and select Export as CSV.
- 5For programmatic or higher-fidelity snapshots (custom dimensions, template variable overrides, entity filters, scheduled reports), use the NerdGraph dashboardCreateSnapshotUrl or dashboardWidgetCreateSnapshotUrl mutations instead of the UI.
- 6To export raw underlying telemetry data (not just dashboard views), confirm your account has Data Plus, then choose Historical Data Export for a one-time bulk export of already-ingested data, or Streaming Export for continuously exporting newly ingested data.
- 7For Streaming Export, use the NerdGraph API's streamingExportCreateRule mutation with a flat NRQL query (no aggregation, FACET, COMPARE WITH, or subqueries) and your AWS Kinesis Firehose, Azure Event Hub, or GCP Pub/Sub connection details.
- 8Optionally set payloadCompression to GZIP, then wait up to about six minutes for the rule status to move from CREATION_IN_PROGRESS to ENABLED before data starts flowing.
What the export includes
- ✓Dashboard layout and configuration (widgets, NRQL queries, template variables) via JSON export
- ✓A single table chart's data as a CSV file
- ✓A visual snapshot of a dashboard or chart as a PDF or PNG image
- ✓Raw NRDB event, metric, and log data selected by an NRQL rule, delivered in JSON format to your own storage or streaming destination (Data Plus only)
What it doesn't include
- ✗Metric timeslice data (legacy APM metric type) is not supported by the Streaming Export NRQL rules
- ✗Aggregated, FACETed, COMPARE WITH, or subquery results cannot be captured by a streaming export rule
- ✗Custom visualizations are not preserved when exporting a dashboard as PDF or PNG through the UI (use the NerdGraph API instead)
- ✗Data ingested while a streaming export rule was disabled is never backfilled by that rule
Before you start
- ⚠Streaming Export only forwards data as it's ingested going forward; if you disable and re-enable a rule, data ingested during the downtime is not exported — use Historical Data Export for already-ingested data instead
- ⚠PDF/PNG snapshot URLs generated via the NerdGraph API are publicly accessible without authentication and expire after 3 months
- ⚠Creating or updating a streaming export rule takes up to about six minutes, and the rule is locked from further changes until that process completes
- ⚠The amount of data you can stream per month is capped by your total monthly ingested data volume; exceeding it can get your streaming export access suspended
- ⚠Streaming Export requires a Pro or Enterprise account with the Data Plus option, a core or full platform user type, the streaming data permission, and a pre-configured AWS/Azure/GCP destination already set up to receive the data

Grafana Cloud
New Relic's dashboard JSON uses its own schema and won't import directly into Grafana; recreate panels manually using the same NRQL logic against your new data source. For ongoing raw telemetry, point your instrumentation at Grafana Cloud (OTLP/Prometheus remote_write) instead of migrating historical exports.
SigNoz
SigNoz ingests OpenTelemetry natively, so the practical migration path is re-pointing your OTel exporters/agents at SigNoz for new data rather than replaying New Relic's JSON dashboard or streaming exports.
Better Stack
Use exported CSV chart data as a reference to recreate equivalent metrics/log-based monitors and dashboards in Better Stack; there's no direct one-click import of New Relic dashboard JSON.
Exporting from New Relic: common questions
Can I export my raw New Relic data without paying for Data Plus?+
No. Bulk export of raw telemetry data (Historical Data Export or Streaming Export) requires the Data Plus add-on on a Pro or Enterprise account. Without it, you're limited to dashboard and chart exports (JSON, CSV, PDF, PNG).
What format is data delivered in when using Streaming Export?+
JSON. New Relic sends it to a destination you control — AWS Kinesis Firehose, Azure Event Hub, or GCP Pub/Sub — and you can optionally enable GZIP compression on the payload.
Can Streaming Export pull data that was ingested before I set up the rule?+
No, streaming export only processes data as it's ingested going forward. To get already-ingested (historical) data, you need to use the separate Historical Data Export feature.
Does exporting a dashboard as PDF or PNG keep custom visualizations?+
No. UI-based PDF/PNG export doesn't support custom visualizations; use the NerdGraph dashboardCreateSnapshotUrl or dashboardWidgetCreateSnapshotUrl mutations if you need those preserved.
How long does it take for a new export rule to go live?+
Rule creation or updates can take up to about six minutes. During that time the rule is locked and you can't run another Enable, Disable, or Update mutation against it.
Who is allowed to set up Data Plus export rules?+
A core or full platform user with the streaming data permission, on a Pro or Enterprise account that has the Data Plus option enabled.
