How to export your data from NetSuite
NetSuite has no single 'export entire account' button — data comes out record type by record type via CSV/Excel/PDF export from list views, saved searches, and reports, or in bulk via the paid SuiteAnalytics Connect (ODBC/JDBC) add-on or SuiteTalk/REST APIs.
✓ Verified against NetSuite's official documentation, September 2026
Step by step
- 1Open the list or saved search for the record type you want (Lists > [Record Type], or Lists > Search > Saved Searches > run the search).
- 2On the results grid, click the small spreadsheet/export icon in the header, or use the Export - CSV / Export - Excel link at the top of the page.
- 3Pick a file format (CSV or Excel for lists/searches; CSV, Excel, or PDF for financial reports) and confirm to generate and download the file.
- 4Repeat per record type (customers, items, transactions, employees, vendors, etc.) since there is no single export-everything action.
- 5For large tables or a full account-wide pull, arrange the SuiteAnalytics Connect add-on and connect a BI/ODBC/JDBC client (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) to query and export all underlying tables.
- 6Export File Cabinet attachments (invoices, images, documents) separately — they are not included in saved-search or list CSV exports.
- 7If you run OneWorld with multiple subsidiaries, repeat exports per subsidiary/role context as needed.
What the export includes
- ✓Field data for whatever list, saved search, or report you export (customers, vendors, items, transactions, GL/financial data)
- ✓Only the columns/fields you've included in that specific list view, saved search, or report
What it doesn't include
- ✗File Cabinet attachments and documents (must be exported separately)
- ✗Customizations, SuiteScript code, and workflows (require SuiteBundler, not a data export)
- ✗System notes, audit trail/history, and role/permission configuration
- ✗Anything outside the specific saved search, list, or report you ran
Before you start
- ⚠There is no native 'export my whole NetSuite account' button — export is per list/saved search/report
- ⚠Browser-based CSV/Excel/PDF export of a list or search is limited by how many rows the UI grid can render; very large datasets usually need filtering, pagination, or SuiteAnalytics Connect/API access instead
- ⚠SuiteAnalytics Connect is a separately licensed, paid add-on tied to specific user seats
- ⚠Export options only appear for record types your role has search/export permission on
- ⚠NetSuite's detailed step-by-step help articles require an authenticated Help Center login and were not independently re-verified via public fetch for this guide — confirm exact menu wording in your own account before relying on it for a migration
Where to take your data
Free and cheaper tools that can take a NetSuite export. See all NetSuite alternatives →
Odoo (Community, free)
Use Odoo's built-in CSV import wizard (the Import button on any list view, e.g., Customers, Products, Invoices) to map NetSuite CSV export columns to Odoo fields
ERPNext (free, open source)
Use ERPNext's Data Import Tool to upload NetSuite CSV exports per doctype (Customer, Item, Sales Invoice, etc.) with field mapping
Zoho Books
Use Zoho Books' Import Data feature (Settings > Data > Import) to upload NetSuite CSV exports of customers, items, and invoices with column mapping
Exporting from NetSuite: common questions
Can I export all of NetSuite's data in one click?+
No. NetSuite has no single export-everything function — you export per list, saved search, or report (CSV/Excel/PDF), or use the paid SuiteAnalytics Connect add-on for broader ODBC/JDBC access.
Is CSV export free?+
Standard CSV/Excel/PDF export from lists, saved searches, and reports is included in every NetSuite edition. SuiteAnalytics Connect and third-party migration/ETL tools cost extra.
Can I export file attachments and documents?+
Not through saved search or list export. Attachments live in the File Cabinet and need to be downloaded separately or pulled via the REST/SuiteScript API.
Do I need administrator access to export data?+
You need a role with search/view/export permission on each record type. The Administrator role has full access to export everything you're permitted to see.
What's the best way to get a full backup before leaving NetSuite?+
Run saved searches/reports for every record type you need (customers, items, transactions, GL, employees) and export each to CSV/Excel, and/or set up SuiteAnalytics Connect or the SOAP/REST APIs to pull a complete dataset before your contract ends.
How long does NetSuite keep my data after I cancel?+
NetSuite doesn't publish a fixed self-service retention window on its public pages; treat your service agreement's terms as authoritative and export everything you need before cancellation rather than relying on post-cancellation access.
