How to export your data from Mailgun

Mailgun lets you export event Logs and Reporting Dashboard metrics as CSV (capped at 1,000 rows per Logs export), and export Suppressions (bounces, complaints, unsubscribes) and Mailing List recipients as CSV from the Control Panel; larger or ongoing exports require the Logs, Suppressions, and Mailing Lists REST APIs, while Routes and Webhooks have no export button and must be recreated manually.

Formats: CSV, JSONPlan: Not gated by plan in Mailgun's docs — export buttons for Logs, Reporting, Suppressions, and Mailing Lists are available in the Control Panel on any plan; data retention length (how far back you can export) does vary by plan.Role: Not specified in Mailgun's docs — any user with Control Panel access to the relevant domain can use the export buttons.

Step by step

  1. 1Log in to the Mailgun Control Panel and make sure you're on the correct region (US or EU) — event data is stored separately per region.
  2. 2To export event logs: go to Send > Reporting > Logs, set your filters/date range, then click the Export button in the upper right of the table to download a CSV (capped at 1,000 rows).
  3. 3To export reporting metrics: go to Send > Reporting > Dashboard, select a date range to load the tabular view, then export the table as a CSV.
  4. 4To export suppression lists: go to Sending > [your domain] > Suppressions, then click the Export button next to Add Recipient for each type — Bounces, Complaints, and Unsubscribes — separately.
  5. 5To export mailing lists: go to Sending > Mailing Lists, open the specific list, and click Export Recipients.
  6. 6For Routes and Webhooks: there is no export button — manually record each Route and Webhook configuration from the Control Panel, or pull them via the Routes/Webhooks API, so you can recreate them elsewhere.
  7. 7For volumes larger than the UI limits (e.g., thousands of logs or many lists), use Mailgun's REST APIs instead: the Logs API, the Suppressions API (bounces/complaints/unsubscribes/allowlists), and the Mailing Lists API.

What the export includes

  • ✓Email event logs (accepted, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, etc.) as CSV, with filters on domain, event type, recipient, tag, and more
  • ✓Per-event JSON payload (timestamp, envelope, recipient, delivery status) viewable per log entry
  • ✓Reporting Dashboard tabular metrics (opens, clicks, bounces, deliveries) as CSV
  • ✓Suppression lists: Bounces, Complaints, and Unsubscribes, exported separately as CSV
  • ✓Mailing list recipient data as CSV

What it doesn't include

  • ✗Routes configuration — no bulk/file export available in the UI
  • ✗Webhooks configuration — no bulk/file export available in the UI
  • ✗SMTP credentials — not covered by a dedicated export button in the docs; must be noted manually before migrating/leaving
  • ✗Full raw message bodies/MIME in a bulk export — MIME/message rendering is viewable per log entry only, and availability depends on your plan's message retention settings

Before you start

  • ⚠Logs exports are hard-capped at 1,000 rows per export; for more, Mailgun points you to webhooks or the Logs API instead.
  • ⚠The Reporting Dashboard shows the last 24 hours by default and does not auto-load tabular data — you must pick a date range before the CSV export will contain anything useful.
  • ⚠Log/event data retention is tied to your plan's message retention setting; you can't export events older than your retention window.
  • ⚠Reporting metric retention: hourly stats kept 60 days, daily stats kept 1 year, monthly stats kept indefinitely — so exports of older periods only return daily/monthly granularity.
  • ⚠US and EU regions store data separately; if an export looks empty, check you're in the correct region.
  • ⚠Suppressions must be exported one type at a time (Bounces, Complaints, Unsubscribes are three separate exports).
  • ⚠Once a domain is deleted, its data cannot be recovered — export everything first if you're migrating or canceling.

Where to take your data

Free and cheaper tools that can take a Mailgun export. See all Mailgun alternatives →

Use Postmark's Suppressions API or dashboard bulk-suppress tools to re-import your exported bounce/complaint/unsubscribe CSV so you don't re-send to bad addresses.

Brevo (Sendinblue)

Import your Mailgun Mailing Lists CSV export directly into a Brevo Contacts list via its CSV import tool, and add your suppression CSV to Brevo's blocked contacts/unsubscribe list.

Resend doesn't have a bulk suppression-list importer, so use your exported bounce/complaint/unsubscribe CSV to filter your sending list before uploading recipients to Resend's Audiences via CSV or API.

Exporting from Mailgun: common questions

Can I export more than 1,000 Mailgun log events at once?+

No — the Logs export in the Control Panel is capped at 1,000 rows. For larger volumes, use webhooks to capture events as they happen or pull historical data via the Logs API.

Will I lose my bounce/unsubscribe suppression list if I leave Mailgun?+

Yes, unless you export it first. Go to Sending > [domain] > Suppressions and export Bounces, Complaints, and Unsubscribes separately as CSV before closing or migrating your account.

Can I export my Routes and Webhooks configuration?+

No — Mailgun's docs confirm there's no export button for Routes or Webhooks; you need to manually record the settings or pull them via the API and recreate them in the new system.

How far back can I export data from Mailgun?+

It depends on the data type: event log retention is tied to your plan's message retention setting (up to 30 days), while Reporting Dashboard metrics keep hourly stats for 60 days, daily stats for 1 year, and monthly stats indefinitely.

Do I need a specific Mailgun plan to export my data?+

Mailgun's documentation doesn't gate the Logs, Reporting, Suppressions, or Mailing Lists export buttons behind a specific plan — they're available in the Control Panel regardless of tier, though how much historical data you can export depends on your plan's retention settings.

What's the best way to export everything before canceling my Mailgun account?+

Export Suppressions and Mailing Lists as CSV from the Control Panel, pull recent Logs as CSV (or via API for more than 1,000 events), and manually document your Routes, Webhooks, and SMTP credentials since those have no built-in export.
