How to export your data from Lever

Lever lets any user with access run self-serve reporting exports (CSV, Excel, TXT, PNG) from Visual Insights / Data Explorer for individual data sets like Opportunities, Requisitions, and EEO surveys. A complete, one-time account data export (used when leaving Lever) must be requested from your Lever account team and is downloaded by a Super Admin via a time-limited link.

Formats: CSV, Excel, TXT, PNGPlan: Self-serve reporting exports are included on all paid Lever packages (Lever Basic, LeverTRM, LeverTRM for Enterprise). A complete account data export unrelated to account termination is a separate paid service arranged with your Lever account team; one complimentary full export is provided per account when terminating service.Role: Super Admin is required for the full account-termination data export and to grant other users export access. Admin, Team Member, Limited Team Member, and Interviewer roles can run individual report exports only if explicitly granted permission (Interviewers cannot access Visual Insights at all, so they can never get export access).

Step by step

  1. 1Open Visual Insights from Lever's top navigation bar to access everyday reporting data.
  2. 2To export a single chart, hover over its top-right corner, click the menu icon, and select 'Download data'; choose a format (CSV is the default, or TXT, Excel, PNG).
  3. 3For larger or filtered data sets, open Data Explorer inside Visual Insights, click the Exports icon in the left-side navigation, and pick a data set or export template (Opportunities, Requisitions, EEO/Compliance, Candidate Experience Survey, etc.).
  4. 4To get every row instead of the limited set shown on screen, open a saved report, click the gear icon, choose Schedule, and under Advanced Options select 'All results' instead of 'Results shown in the table'.
  5. 5To let non-Super-Admin teammates run their own exports, go to Settings > Users, open the user's profile, click the Access tab, scroll to Additional permissions, and toggle on 'Allow user to access data exports', then select which exports they can run.
  6. 6For a complete, one-time export of your entire Lever account's data (typically done when offboarding), a Super Admin must contact your Lever account team to request the account-termination data export.
  7. 7Download everything from the export link as soon as it's ready: the link is valid for 14 days, but the Candidates, Postings, Interview Calibration, and Interview Events portions are only available for 7 days.
  8. 8If you need a complete export that isn't tied to account termination, or need additional exports beyond the one complimentary termination export, arrange this with your Lever account team as a paid service.

What the export includes

  • ✓Reporting data sets available through Visual Insights/Data Explorer: Opportunities, Requisitions, Postings, EEO/compliance survey responses, Candidate Experience Survey results
  • ✓For the account-termination export: Candidates, Postings, Interview Calibration, and Interview Events data, plus other account data included in the export package

What it doesn't include

  • ✗A free, instant, all-in-one workspace dump — self-serve tools only export individual reports/data sets, not everything at once
  • ✗More than one complimentary full account data export per account
  • ✗Data not downloaded in time — once 90 days pass from the account's system shut-off date, it is permanently gone and cannot be recovered
  • ✗A complete export unrelated to account termination without engaging your Lever account team (it's a paid service)

Before you start

  • ⚠The account-termination export link expires in 14 days; the Candidates, Postings, Interview Calibration, and Interview Events sections expire even sooner, in 7 days
  • ⚠Only Super Admins can access the account-termination export link and must be logged into Lever to download it; the account can be deactivated and a Super Admin can still retrieve it
  • ⚠Only one complimentary data export is provided per account for termination; anything beyond that requires working with your account team
  • ⚠Visual Insights report exports load a limited number of rows by default — you must select 'All results' in Advanced Options to export every row
  • ⚠Super Admins always have access to export all reports by default and cannot have export access individually configured; Interviewers can never get export access because they don't have Visual Insights access at all

Where to take your data

Free and cheaper tools that can take a Lever export. See all Lever alternatives →

Ashby

Export your candidate, opportunity, and requisition data from Lever as CSV, then use Ashby's candidate/CSV import tooling (or Ashby's migration assistance during onboarding) to map fields and bring over historical pipeline data.

Workable

Export candidates and job/requisition data from Lever as CSV and import candidates into Workable via its bulk CSV candidate import, then recreate pipeline stages manually.

Notion ATS Template

Export Lever data as CSV and import it into a Notion database (Notion supports CSV import) set up with the ATS template's structure for candidates and pipeline stages.

Exporting from Lever: common questions

Does Lever charge for exporting data?+

Day-to-day reporting exports in Visual Insights are included in all paid Lever packages. A complete one-time account export is free when tied to account termination (one per account), but additional exports or a full export unrelated to termination are a paid service arranged with your account team.

Who can download the full Lever data export?+

Only a user with the Super Admin role can access the account-termination export link, and they must be logged into their Lever account to download it.

How long do I have to download my data after leaving Lever?+

The export link is valid for 14 days, though the Candidates, Postings, Interview Calibration, and Interview Events portions are only available for 7 days. After 90 days from your system shut-off date, the data is gone and cannot be recovered.

What file format is the Lever export in?+

CSV is the default format for most reports and scheduled exports. Ad-hoc downloads from Visual Insights charts can also be saved as TXT, Excel, or PNG.

Can regular recruiters or admins export data themselves, or only Super Admins?+

Super Admins can export all reports by default. Other roles (Admin, Team Member, Limited Team Member) need a Super Admin to toggle on per-user, per-report export access in Settings > Users > Access. Interviewers can never get this access since they can't use Visual Insights.

Can I automate or schedule recurring exports instead of doing it manually each time?+

Yes. Data Explorer lets you schedule the export or share of a report as CSV, and you can choose to export all matching rows instead of just the limited set shown on screen by selecting 'All results' in the scheduler's Advanced Options.
