How to export your data from LastPass

LastPass lets you export your vault (sites, secure notes, form fills, Wi-Fi passwords) as a plaintext CSV file, either from the browser extension or from the web vault. Attachments and TOTP one-time-passcodes cannot be exported, and admins on Teams/Business plans can block export entirely with a policy.

Step by step

1Browser extension method: log in via the inactive LastPass icon in your browser toolbar with your email and master password (complete MFA if enabled).
2Click the LastPass icon, select the Account tab, then go to Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items > Export data for use anywhere.
3Enter your master password when prompted, optionally set 'Do not re-prompt for' a time interval, then select Continue — a CSV file downloads automatically.
4Web vault method (alternative): go to the LastPass login page, sign in, then select the Account tab and go to Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items (or Account Options > Advanced Options > Export in the older UI).
5Enter your master password and select Continue — LastPass emails a 'Verify export' notification to your account email.
6Open that email and click Continue export within 10 minutes before the link expires.
7Return to your vault and repeat Advanced Options > Export, enter your master password again, and select Submit.
8Your vault data displays in a browser page (copy/paste into a text editor to save it) and, if pop-ups aren't blocked, a CSV also downloads automatically.

Before you start

⚠The exported CSV is plaintext and unencrypted — LastPass does not encrypt it, so store or delete it carefully after import.
⚠The web-vault export method requires a two-step email verification, and the verification link expires after 10 minutes.
⚠The generic CSV export can only be performed from the LastPass browser extension, not the web vault, mobile app, or desktop app directly.
⚠If you edit the CSV manually before re-importing, LastPass requires all column headers to be lowercase.
⚠Business/Teams admins can block vault export entirely for all users via the 'Prohibit export' general policy.
⚠Exporting attachments and TOTP codes is never supported by either export method — back those up separately before migrating.

Can I export my LastPass vault for free?+

Yes — export is available on the Free plan as well as paid plans, using either the browser extension or the web vault, unless a Business/Teams admin has disabled it with the 'Prohibit export' policy.

Will my TOTP codes and file attachments come with the export?+

No. LastPass's export does not support exporting TOTP one-time-passcodes or file attachments — you need to migrate those separately (e.g., re-scan TOTP QR codes in your new app).

Why did LastPass send me a 'Verify export' email instead of downloading a file?+

That happens when you export through the web vault (rather than the browser extension) — LastPass requires email verification for that flow, and the confirmation link expires after 10 minutes.

Is the exported CSV file secure?+

No, the CSV is unencrypted plaintext containing all your saved passwords and notes. Delete it or store it in an encrypted location immediately after importing it into your new password manager.

My admin disabled export on my Business account — what can I do?+

If your admin has enabled the 'Prohibit export' policy, the export option is removed for all users on that account; you'd need to ask an admin to change the policy or export data on your behalf.

Can I export just my identities/payment profiles instead of everything?+

Yes, LastPass has a separate identities export flow (Advanced options > Export with 'All' identities selected) that produces a CSV limited to identity data rather than the full vault.
