How to export your data from Folk

Folk lets you export contacts and their associated notes as CSV files, but only on a group-by-group basis (there is no whole-workspace export) — you open a group, click the three-dot menu, choose "Export view as CSV," and download a zip containing contacts.csv and notes.csv.

Step by step

  1. 1Open the group (list) in Folk that contains the contacts you want to export.
  2. 2Display all the columns/fields you want in the export — only columns currently shown in the view are included.
  3. 3Apply any filters if you only want a subset of contacts; the export respects the view's filters.
  4. 4Click the three dots in the top-right corner of the group.
  5. 5Select "Export view as CSV."
  6. 6Wait for the zip file to generate and download it.
  7. 7Unzip the file to get two CSVs: one for contacts and one for notes.
  8. 8Repeat these steps for each additional group, since Folk does not support exporting the entire workspace at once.

What the export includes

  • ✓Contacts (as displayed/filtered in the current group view)
  • ✓Notes associated with those contacts
  • ✓Only the columns/fields that are currently displayed in the view

What it doesn't include

  • ✗Interactions
  • ✗Reminders
  • ✗Contact custom field
  • ✗Strongest connection
  • ✗Group smart field
  • ✗People in the company view

Before you start

  • ⚠No whole-workspace export — exporting must be done group by group if contacts are spread across multiple groups.
  • ⚠Only columns that are visible/displayed in the view at export time are included, so you must manually show all relevant fields first.
  • ⚠Any filters applied to the view will also limit which rows are exported.
  • ⚠The export is delivered as a single zip file containing two separate CSVs (contacts and notes) rather than one combined file.

Where to take your data

Free and cheaper tools that can take a Folk export. See all Folk alternatives →

Folk Free

Re-import the contacts.csv into a new or existing Folk workspace on the Free plan via the CSV import feature, keeping only the groups/contacts you still need.

HubSpot Free CRM

Use HubSpot's contact import tool to upload contacts.csv, mapping Folk's columns to HubSpot contact properties; notes from notes.csv will need to be re-associated manually or imported separately as engagement notes.

Google Contacts

Reformat contacts.csv to match Google's expected CSV headers (name, email, phone, etc.) before uploading via Google Contacts' Import feature, since Folk's export columns won't match Google's format by default.

Exporting from Folk: common questions

Can I export my entire Folk workspace in one go?+

No. Folk's export only works per group, not for the whole workspace, so you need to export each group separately if your data spans multiple groups.

What format does Folk export data in?+

CSV, delivered inside a single zip file that contains two CSVs: one for contacts and one for notes.

Are notes included when I export a group?+

Yes, the export includes a separate notes.csv file alongside the contacts.csv file.

Will interactions, reminders, or custom fields be in my export?+

No. Folk's docs list interactions, reminders, contact custom fields, strongest connection, group smart fields, and people in the company view as excluded from the export.

Why are some columns missing from my exported CSV?+

Folk only exports the columns currently displayed in the group view, so you need to display all relevant fields before exporting to get them in the CSV.

Does an active filter on my view affect what gets exported?+

Yes, the export considers all columns displayed and filters applied in the view, so a filtered view will only export the matching subset of contacts.
