How to export your data from Drip
Drip exports people (subscriber) lists, account-wide data, and analytics reports as CSV files — there is no JSON export option. Most exports are generated and emailed as a download link to the logged-in user's email, while the Inactive People CSV downloads directly to the browser.
✓ Verified against Drip's official documentation, October 2026
Step by step
- 1Export your subscriber list: go to People > Active, use the filter to build a segment (or leave it blank for everyone), then click Actions > Export to CSV > Okay
- 2Export inactive/unsubscribed people separately: go to People > Inactive, click Actions > Export to CSV (this one downloads straight to your browser instead of being emailed)
- 3Export account-wide data: go to Settings > Account > Export Account, then click Export Account > Okay
- 4Export analytics: go to the Analytics tab and export New People, Unsubscribes, Email Metrics, Clicks, or Events reports to CSV
- 5For campaign-level metrics, go to Analytics > Email Metrics, select the campaign type and specific email, set a date range, click Apply, then Export to CSV
- 6Check the inbox for the email address under Settings > User Settings — most exports arrive as an emailed download link rather than an instant file
- 7Download each CSV and keep separate files for subscribed vs. unsubscribed people if you plan to re-import elsewhere, since marketing-preference status isn't always preserved automatically on import
What the export includes
- ✓People/subscriber data: email address, Drip person ID/token, status (active/unsubscribed), timezone, created_at and confirmed_at timestamps, tags, custom fields, email series/campaign names, referrer, landing_url, ip_address, lead_score, lifetime_value, user_id
- ✓Inactive people data: token, email, timezone, status, created_at, inactive_at, lifetime value
- ✓Email templates (from the account-wide export)
- ✓Email Series Campaigns (from the account-wide export)
- ✓Analytics reports: New People, Unsubscribes, Email Metrics, Clicks, Events
- ✓Bulk email metrics: email type, campaign ID, subject, delivery/open/click/unsubscribe/reply counts and rates, name, send time, sending timezone
- ✓Recently added 'deliverable' and 'reason' columns on active/inactive people exports, showing why a contact is undeliverable (bounce, spam complaint, etc.)
What it doesn't include
- ✗Emails created with the visual email builder (design/content) are not exportable
- ✗Event data is not exportable in the account-wide export
- ✗Email addresses are not included in a bulk download of Email Metrics reports
- ✗Workflows (automation logic/steps) are not listed among exportable account data — only Templates, the People List, and Email Series Campaigns are
- ✗No JSON, XML, or API-based bulk export format is documented — CSV is the only export format described
Before you start
- ⚠There is no single 'export everything' file — people, account data (templates/campaigns), and analytics are three separate export flows
- ⚠Most exports are emailed as a download link to the account/user email rather than downloading instantly; the Inactive People export is the exception and downloads directly to the browser
- ⚠If the export email doesn't arrive, Drip's docs recommend checking spam before contacting support
- ⚠A bulk Email Metrics export strips out subscriber email addresses, so it's not useful for list migration
- ⚠To fully migrate a list, you need separate CSV exports for subscribed and unsubscribed people, since re-imports can mis-set marketing preference if combined
Where to take your data
Free and cheaper tools that can take a Drip export. See all Drip alternatives →
MailerLite
In MailerLite, go to Subscribers > Import subscribers > Copy/paste or upload a CSV file, then map Drip's email, tags, and custom field columns to MailerLite fields. Import subscribed and unsubscribed CSVs separately so unsubscribed contacts aren't re-added as active.
Omnisend
In Omnisend, go to Audience > Contacts > Add contacts > Import from CSV file, map the email and custom field columns from Drip's export, and set the subscription status field so unsubscribed contacts from Drip's Inactive/unsubscribed CSV stay marked as unsubscribed.
Exporting from Drip: common questions
Can I export my Drip data as JSON instead of CSV?+
No. Drip's documented export options (People, Account, and Analytics exports) are all CSV files — there is no JSON export format described in their help docs.
Does Drip export my email designs and workflows?+
No. Drip explicitly states that emails created with the visual email builder are not exportable. The account-wide export only includes Templates, the People List, and Email Series Campaigns — Workflows and event data are not included.
How long does a Drip export take?+
Drip doesn't publish a specific processing time. Most exports are sent as an emailed download link once Drip finishes preparing the file, so there's a delay rather than an instant download (the Inactive People CSV is the exception, which downloads directly to the browser).
Where does the export file get sent?+
To the email address listed under Settings > User Settings for whichever account you're logged in as — not necessarily the account's primary billing email.
Can I export just unsubscribed or inactive contacts separately?+
Yes. Use the People filter on the Active tab to isolate unsubscribed people, or go to the separate Inactive tab, then Actions > Export to CSV in each case.
Will the exported CSV include why a subscriber is undeliverable?+
Yes, as of Drip's April/May 2026 update, active and inactive people exports include 'deliverable' and 'reason' columns showing whether a contact is a bounce, spam complaint, or otherwise undeliverable.
