How to export your data from Crisp

Crisp lets you export Contact profiles as a CSV from the Contacts section (Essentials plan or higher), plus Analytics reports as CSV and Analytics Dashboards as JSON. There is no native CSV/JSON export for conversation data from the dashboard itself — that requires the Crisp REST API or a third-party migration tool.

Formats: CSV, JSONPlan: Essentials plan or higher for Contact profile CSV export; any plan can export Analytics report CSV / Dashboard JSON; conversation data export depends on API access and is not a native dashboard feature on any planRole: Not specified in Crisp's docs; you need access to the Contacts and Analytics sections of the workspace to run these exports

Step by step

  1. 1Log in to Crisp at app.crisp.chat.
  2. 2To export contacts: go to Contacts → Actions → Export Contact Profiles (requires Essentials plan or higher).
  3. 3Crisp prepares the CSV in the background; this can take a few minutes depending on how many contacts you have.
  4. 4Wait for the email notification telling you the export is ready, then download the CSV.
  5. 5To export conversation data: there is no native CSV export in the dashboard, so use the Crisp REST API to pull conversations yourself, or use a third-party migration tool such as Briskport.
  6. 6If you're exporting a large volume of conversations via the API and hit daily rate limits, contact Crisp to request a higher limit.
  7. 7To export Analytics report data: open a report, use the report's action menu, and select Export Data to get a CSV.
  8. 8To export an Analytics Dashboard (its configuration, not the raw underlying data): go to Analytics → Dashboards, hover the dashboard, click ⋯ (More), select Export, and download the .json file.

What the export includes

  • ✓Contact profile data, exported as CSV from the Contacts section
  • ✓Analytics report data, exportable as CSV per report
  • ✓Analytics Dashboard chart configurations, queries/metrics, filters, date ranges, and layout, exported as a .json file

What it doesn't include

  • ✗Conversation messages/transcripts — not available as a native CSV export from the Crisp app; must be retrieved via the API or a migration tool
  • ✗A raw data snapshot behind a Dashboard export — the JSON export is the dashboard's configuration/template, not a backup of the underlying conversation or contact records
  • ✗Integrations, chatbot/Helpdesk configuration, and canned message shortcuts are not covered by the Contact or Analytics export flows documented here

Before you start

  • ⚠Contact exports are capped at 500,000 contacts; you need to contact Crisp directly if you have more
  • ⚠Conversation data has no native CSV export at all — budget time to build an API export or evaluate a third-party migration tool like Briskport
  • ⚠Large-volume API exports can hit Crisp's daily API rate limits; a higher limit has to be requested and is reviewed by Crisp, not instant
  • ⚠Contact CSV generation isn't immediate — it runs in the background and you're notified by email once it's ready
  • ⚠Dashboard JSON exports are meant as reusable templates, not as a permanent backup of your analytics data

Chatwoot

Chatwoot supports importing contacts from a CSV file into its Contacts section, so your Crisp contact-profile export can be mapped in there. Conversation history has no equivalent bulk-import path since Crisp doesn't offer a native conversation export — you'd need to pull transcripts via the Crisp API first and script a custom import, or start fresh in Chatwoot.

Tawk.to does not offer a bulk CSV contact/visitor import in the way Crisp's CRM does, so your exported contact CSV is mainly useful as an external backup or for re-importing into a spreadsheet/CRM tool rather than directly into Tawk.to. As with Chatwoot, historical conversations need to be pulled via the Crisp API first since there's no native conversation export to migrate from.

Exporting from Crisp: common questions

Can I export my full chat history from Crisp?+

Not as a native CSV/JSON export from the dashboard. Crisp's own docs state conversation data cannot be exported as a native CSV from the app, so you need to use the Crisp REST API or a third-party migration tool to pull conversation history.

What plan do I need to export contacts from Crisp?+

Contact profile CSV exports are available starting from the Essentials plan, run from Contacts → Actions → Export Contact Profiles.

Is there a limit on how many contacts I can export?+

Yes, contact exports are limited to 500,000 contacts; if you have more, you need to contact Crisp directly.

How long does a Crisp contact export take?+

Crisp prepares the CSV in the background and the time depends on your number of contacts; you get an email notification once the file is ready to download.

Can I back up my Analytics dashboards before switching tools?+

Yes. From Analytics → Dashboards, hover a dashboard, click ⋯ (More), and select Export to download its configuration as a .json file, though this is the dashboard's setup (charts, metrics, filters, layout), not a raw data backup.

What should I use if I'm migrating off Crisp entirely and need conversation data?+

Since there's no native conversation CSV export, plan to either build a custom export against the Crisp REST API or use a third-party migration tool such as Briskport, and be aware that large API pulls may require requesting a higher rate limit from Crisp.
